THE
KNOX COUNTY SOIL SURVEY is an
excellent tool used to identify various soil types throughout the county. The
survey provides
individuals with soil type classifications and soil maps. Various tables which
rate the soils for recreational purposes, building site development, septic tank
installation and tree planting are also at your fingertips.
Whether you are a potential home buyer or a land contractor the soil survey is
definitely a valuable resource. To obtain a free copy book of the Knox County Soil
Survey please contact the Knox Soil & Water Conservation District at
393-6724 or email knoxswcd@knoxswcd.org
with your mailing address.

The Knox County Soil Survey is also available in digital format on compact disk. The CDs contain an updated version of the Soil Survey for Knox County originally published in 1985 as well as digital aerial photographs for the entire county. Two versions are available; a single disk for users who already use or have access to ArcView GIS software, and a dual disk set with an integral “locked down” survey without having to purchase the entire ArcView package. The program is designed to run on current Windows© operating systems. The cost of both versions is $5.00, they may be ordered pre-paid through mail order (P.O. Box 270, Mount Vernon, OH 43050) or picked up at the SWCD office at 1025 Harcourt Rd. Mount Vernon. Checks should be made payable to Knox SWCD.
