Balsam Fir: Small to medium size tree has dark green needles 1/2 to 1 inch long, flattened and marked on the undersides by two silvery white bands. It is planted as an ornamental and prized for Christmas trees.
Colorado Blue Spruce: Grows to be a beautiful tree. Fine for ornamental and Christmas trees. Has short needles typical of spruces. Green to deep blue in color.
Douglas-Fir: Grows 40 to 60 feet in height. It has short flat needles and makes an excellent ornamental tree. Grows in moist locations near streams. Seeds are eaten by several birds.
Eastern White Pine:
This is
a large conifer. Needles are always five to a cluster and two to five inches
long. This is an excellent shade and ornamental tree. Our best pine for
lumber.
Norway Spruce: A slow growing evergreen of conical form. The needles are usually four sided, stiff and sharp to the touch. Good drainage is necessary.
Serbian Spruce:
Needles are
dark green above and blue green below and are 5/8 to 1 inch in length. It
is a very winter hardy tree and leafs out very late in the spring. Grows
to 80 feet in height, grows moderately slowly. Tree has soft appearance,
is a beautiful ornamental tree. Poor Christmas tree due to needles falling
off soon after tree is cut.
