Natural Features and Drainage Characteristics
1. Can acceptable natural features be preserved at reasonable costs? Contact: Knox SWCD and Ohio State University Extension
2. Is property located in a floodway/flood plain? Contact: Knox SWCD
3. Have you checked on flood insurance? Contact: Realtor or Mortgage Company
4. What is prevailing wind direction? Contact: Knox SWCD or Ohio State University Extension
5. Are you considering solar energy? How would this affect the placement of your home? Contact: Ohio State University Extension
6. If stream or pond exists on property:
- Are there signs of streambank erosion?
- Is there heavy algae growth, odor or thick sediment on the stream bed or dead fish?
- For ponds, check for dam stability and leaks.
- Trees should not be growing on the dam.
- Are overflow structures adequate?
- Is the dike/dam sound?
