Monthly Board Meetings

The Knox Soil & Water Conservation District's monthly board meetings are scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. on regular time and 8:00 p.m. on daylight savings time  The meetings are held in the meeting room of the Agricultural Service Center located at 1025 Harcourt Road, Mount Vernon.  The public is invited to attend, however, we ask that you contact our office at 393-F6724 to inquire about the meeting since some meetings are known to change dates.

Pond Management Clinic Scheduled

 To learn more about pond management plan to attend the Knox SWCD Pond Clinic on April 21, 2010 at the meeting room of the Agricultural Service Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.   This clinic will be sponsored by the Knox Soil & Water Conservation District and the Knox County OSU Extension Service.  Speakers will be on hand to discuss weed control, fish stocking, pond construction and management.  The clinic is free and open to the public.  To register contact the SWCD office at 393-6724 by April 14th.

Managing On-Farm Nutrients for Profitability Workshop

The Knox SWCD in conjunction with the Knox County OSU Extension Service will be conducting a workshop titled “Managing On-Farm Nutrients for Maximum Profitability” on February 10 from 10:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m.  This workshop will be held in the meeting room of the Agricultural Service Center located at 1025 Harcourt Road. 

The workshop will provide valuable information for livestock producers and cash grain operators that regularly import manure to their operations to supplement fertility. Participants will learn how to utilize the OSU Extension's new “Nutrient Management Workbook” tool to assess nutrient availability on a field by field basis for their operations. The tool will also show how to balance manure applications with commercial fertilizer inputs to maximize profitability. 

The cost of the workshop is $7.00 which includes the cost of a workbook and lunch.  Participants are asked to bring a soil test for 2 to 3 fields and an analysis of their manure product or the manure produce they import if available.  To register for the workshop please contact the SWCD office at 393-6724 by February 1, 2010.
